NWS Results From "Legends Of The Ring" Show In North Brunswick, NJ 10/24: WCW Alum Kevin Sullivan Battles Monsta Mack With Fellow WCW Alum Terry Funk In His Corner, Former WWE'ers The Patriot & The World Famous Clown Team Up, WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez Takes On Angel Orsini In A Non-Title Match, NWS Pays Tribute To Captain Lou, Appearances By WWE Hall Of Famer Superstar Billy Graham, TNA Stars Lacey Von Erich & Awesome Kong, And Lots More
On the heels of the annual "Legends Of The Ring" convention in nearby Monroe Township, NJ earlier in the day, National Wrestling Superstars came to the North Brunswick, NJ Township High School Gym for its first show there in five years. Despite the drenching rain and the scheduled Yankees game keeping fans at home, a more than decent turnout filled the seats around the ring and in the bleachers to watch another hot night of NWS action, punctuated by the appearance of wrestling legends including former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and Hall of Famer "Superstar" Billy Graham, former WCW & WWE & ECW legend Terry Funk, former WCW star "The Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan, former WWE & WCW star "America's Hero" The Patriot, and TNA Wrestling stars Lacey Von Erich and (making a surprise unannounced appearance) Awesome Kong.
Before the show began, the aforementioned legends came to ringside as NWS paid tribute to the late WWE Hall of Fame manager Captain Lou Albano with a ceremonial ten-count salute.
In a Three-Way Dance for the number-one NWS Cruiserweight Title Contender, Jumping Joey Janella defeated "Mr. Enterianment" J.D. Smoothie and The Funky White Boy. Despite the best efforts of the veterans Smoothie and Funky, Janella was determined to get another Cruiserweight Title shot, and pinned Funky after superkicks to both of his opponents. Janella will get a shot at the Cruiserweight Title the following Friday in Long Branch.
In a non-title match, WSU World Champion "The Latina Sensation" Mercedes Martinez and Angel Orsini fought to a ten-minute time-limit draw. This match was billed as a "respect match" as the two ladies have grown tremendous respect for one another following their years-long feud in WSU. As the match began, out to ringside came a large muscular lady who turned out to be Jaime D, the "bodyguard" of WSU number-one contender Rain. Jaime D claimed she was just out there to scout the competition, but ended up taking cheap shots from the outside at both Angel and Mercedes before the referee had enough and ordered Security to remove her from ringside. The match began again in earnest and the two ladies traded holds back and forth. Angel managed to avoid being pinned by Mercedes' brainbuster suplex, and Mercedes was able to fight her way out of Angel's "Kiss Of Death" Flatliner finisher. Angel was in the process of trying to pin Mercedes with a small package when the bell rang and the match was declared a draw. Both women raised each other's hand in a sign of good sportsmanship after the match.
In a return grudge match, Ryan Rumble defeated J.T. Highlander. This bout was made after last month in Sayreville when Highlander turned on his long-time friend and tag-team partner. In contrast to the last bout, both men tore into each other with no respect or sportsmanship. In the end, Rumble won with a flying body press onto Highlander. After the match, Rumble tried to bury the hatchet and offered to shake hands with Highlander, but Highlander merely clotheslined him and walked off in disgust.
The Nigerian Nightmares (with manager "Voodoo Princess" Sheeta) defeated The BS Express. Before the match, manager Royce Profit and his entourage of former WWE developmental protege "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews, Steve "Monsta" Mack, and NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans came out to the ring with the Nightmares. Commissioner Gino Moore would have no part of it however, and ordered Profit and his entourage back to the locker room, threatening to dock their pay and cancel their main event matches. With the entourage gone, the match got under way, and the Express took the fight to the Nightmares and kept the match mostly even. After enduring double-team offense from the Nightmares for a few minutes, Express member Tom ducked out of a potentially fatal Nigerian Sandwich and tagged in his partner Ed, who cleaned house on the Nightmares, and even managed to *BODYSLAM* the larger of the two Nightmares to the thunderous delight of the crowd. As all four men fought in and out of the ring, the Nightmares missed a splash in the corner on Express member Tom and ended up hitting the referee instead, knocking him out. Royce Profit and his entourage took advantage of the unconscious referee and ran back into the ring and attacked The BS Express. As the referee began to wake up, Profit and his entourage retreated to the outside as The Nightmares flattened Tom with a Nigerian Leg Roll and the referee counted a groggy 1-2-3 for the Nightmares. The Nightmares and Profit's entourage continued the attack on The BS Express until "G.Q." Myke Quest, The Famous Wrestling Clown, and The Patriot ran out to make the save, followed by legends Kevin Sullivan and Terry Funk. The Nightmares and Profit's entourage retreated from the ring. Monsta Mack told Sullivan that he would retire him once and for all in their main event match later that night, and Sullivan told Mack that he would be leaving North Brunswick in a body bag, and asked his fellow legend Terry Funk, who had laid out Royce Profit during the melee, to be in his corner in the main event. Funk was only too happy to oblige.
In a Title-For-Title Match, NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans and NWS Jersey Shore Champion "G.Q." Myke Quest fought to a double countout. These two have been fighting all over the tri-state area all year with no clear winner, and there would be none this night either when, after an even match inside the ring, the two took their fight to the outside and the referee reached the count of ten and declared the match a double countout. Quest and Oceans continued to brawl until Commissioner Moore announced that the two would meet again in Basking Ridge next month in a "Loser Gets Put Through A Door Match".
In a tag-team grudge match, former WWE developmental protege "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews & NWS Heavyweight Champion "Corrupted" Corey Havoc (with manager Royce Profit) won a surprise victory over former WWE & WCW star "America's Hero" The Patriot & The Famous TV Wrestling Clown. The veterans Patriot and Clown dominated most of the match, but Profit's interference would prove the difference maker in the end. As The Clown was on the top rope to deliver his "Whopee Cushion" finisher to Matthews, Profit knocked him off the top with his golf club, and Matthews slapped a Full Nelson submission on The Clown who tapped out. While Profit was celebrating his victory, an angry Patriot seized Profit and dragged him into the ring, pulled down Profit's trousers, and humiliatingly spanked his bare behind. (Patriot also took Profit's golf club and performed actions on Profit with it which cannot be described on a family-accessible web site.)
In the Main Event, former WCW wrestler and manager "The Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan (with WWE & WCW & ECW legend Terry Funk in his corner) defeated Steve "Monsta" Mack (with former WWE developmental protege "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews in his corner). Matthews was still groggy after his upset victory in the last match, and Monsta Mack gave him the rest of the night off. Sullivan proved he could still brawl with the best of them, as he took the fight to the bigger and stronger Mack, and Funk got in shots whenever Mack was on the outside. Sullivan used his punches, and even a steel chair and choking with wrist tape to keep the advantage on Mack. The fight even spilled out of the ring and all the way to the autograph tables in the back. The end came when Mack had Sullivan down and was preparing to deliver a moonsault from the top rope, when Funk hit Mack causing him to spike himself. With Mack hanging upside down from the top turnbuckle in pain, Sullivan hit his running Tree Of Woe finisher on Mack and covered him for the 1-2-3. Mack angrily got in Funk's face after the match, and Funk slugged Mack right out of the ring as the crowd went home happy.
