It was the betrayal heard around the world when Davey Richards brutally attacked Eddie Edwards on IMPACT on Pop last month and cost him the World Championship. They were brothers. They were friends. They were Tag Team partners for over 8 years. No one saw it coming. So we beg to question, what went wrong?
We think it was a combination of things, but the biggest factor towards Davey Richards anger and animosity for Eddie Edwards is his raging jealousy. After a devastating injury last year, Davey Richards was unable to compete in the ring. Unfortunately, this left Eddie Edwards without a tag team partner. Edwards, not wanting to take a break from the action to wait on his partner to recuperate, he competed on his own and proved his skills were just as impressive as a singles competitor. Eddie Edwards went on to win the TNA X-Division Championship twice and hold the coveted World Title once.
As one can imagine, this would leave Davey Richards feeling left out and left behind, unsure of what lies ahead for his career. Fighting his way back from a knee injury is hard enough, but having insecurity about what awaits him when he returns adds to the anxiety. Watching his teammate and partner succeed from afar proved too much for Davey Richards, and fueled a resentment that could permanently break up one of the world’s best tag teams.
Families fight sometimes. It’s inevitable. But, this seems like so much more than a typical quarrel. It seems deeply rooted in insecurity and jealousy, and that is a lethal combination for a friendship. We wonder if Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards partnership is too far gone, and we are only seeing the first battles of a war between wolves.
