A four-time IMPACT World Champion, former three-time college amateur wrestling champion, United States Army veteran and MMA badass, Lashley personifies a leader, a champion and his nickname “Walking Armageddon” in every sense. For much of 2016 and nearly all of 2017, Lashley has been the World Champion and the face of IMPACT Wrestling. He has fearlessly accepted all challenges; Eddie Edwards, Drew Galloway, EC3, even when a blast from his past, Josh Barnett who is not a contracted athlete at IMPACT Wrestling showed up to challenge for the top spot, Lashley accepted, and won. This begs the question: can anyone beat Walking Armageddon?
Lashley is unlike any other athlete we have seen before in IMPACT Wrestling. His level of intensity in the ring is second to none while his demeanor outside is always calm, collected and unphased by any obstacle placed in his way. How does a man with such a huge target on his back remain so composed at all times? A quick overview of his resume might answer that question. Lashley’s success began long before storming the scene at IMPACT Wrestling and becoming a now four-time World Champion. In college, Lashley was a three-time national wrestling champion. After his domestic success, Lashley would travel to Australia where he wrestled for and won their national championship and would go on to take 2nd place at the World Championships before spending three years training at the Olympic Training Center with aspirations of competing in the 2004 Olympics. As fate would have it, that dream was cut short due to a knee injury but it did not keep Lashley down or eliminate one shred of his fighting spirit. That setback would only set him up for success in the professional wrestling world.
Call him arrogant, cocky or prideful and he’ll probably tell you that you’re right. A man who was an Olympic primed athlete knows what it takes to rise to the top and stay there. Success doesn’t always come in having a large group of friends or being the most popular guy in the room. Lashley is laser focused on Lashley and so far, that philosophy has worked out well for him.
Tonight, live on IMPACT Lashley defends his World Championship against a man whose passion and drive to champion the company may parallel his own, “The Cowboy” James Storm. A formidable opponent, no doubt, but the world calls him “Walking Armageddon” for a reason; any man who stands across the ring from Lashley is a quick three seconds away from their championship hopes and quite possibly their careers, coming to an end.
Tune in tonight at 8/7c to see Lashey vs Storm and so much more on a live episode of IMPACT on POP!
